Purchased as a gift for my husband and he loves it! He keeps it in his duty bag in his cruiser and reads it daily.

As a Chaplain for our sheriff’s office, I am always on the look out for devotionals that I can share with my Blue Line family. I really like the way the author put this book together. If you or someone you love is an officer it is well worth the price. This is also a great gift for new officers within your department.

If you're Looking for a Christian devotional this is OK. The daily devotions are very short. The forward isn't even written by a Christian which I thought was kind of odd. And the actual devotional points are basic. I didn't think it was that great. This might be good for like a teenager but not an adult male who is trying to become closer to the Lord.

This devotional addresses every struggle the police officer goes through and also has a section which discusses how this affects the family of law enforcement. Officers live in a negative, dark world which hardens the heart and affects every aspect of the officers life. This devotional is a breath of fresh air and allows the officer to deal with the negative situations in a positive way. Highly recommend this devotional. We have purchased this devotional for other law enforcement officers and it was well received with gratitude.

Well written and engaging devotional from someone who knows the ups and downs of the career field. It sits on the kitchen table and we read it as a family as I'm coming home from a shift in the morning and my wife and daughter are starting their day. Thank you for such a great spiritual resource.

I am giving this 5 stars because I bought it for my 15 yr. old grandson. He is picky, as is common with most his age. He read the book 3 times in the first week he had it. He loved this book, and was especially intrigued that it is written Japanese style - reading back to front.

This volume is hilarious definitely love this one too. It got me laughing with some of the things that Xion does. Axel's really funny and has Roxas all worried about girls. Can't wait to find out what happens next. Wonderful novels to read and enjoy. Keep them coming.

OMG edge of your seat read. This is the first book I've read by Charlie Gallagher and it won't be the last. Excellent writing. Detective Maddie Ives is handling some burglary cases while other forces are handling bombs going off in cars. She has her prime perp. But he suddenly wants to confess to everything and is in fear of his life why? Normally he is arrogant and walks away with his attorney quickly. Maddie is also working with helping domestic violence victims get out and get help. She meets Grace who she fears is in dire straights. Hoping to help her she gives her advice and offers help to deaf ears. Grace is too afraid to leave. However, she is planning but will she live long enough to make her plan work? Will her plan backfire? Mr. Gallagher pulls you in with a realistic view of a horrible fact some women are facing everyday. Detective Maddie has her hands full with all that's happening at the precinct, a man she could be in love with popping in and out of her life and and trying to help Grace get away from Craig. Grace can't own a phone, is not allowed to grocery shop can't see her own father and must indure unspeakable treatment and pain. She is writing it down and taking pictures as Maddies requested but she can hardly walk how can she make her plan work? Heart pounding at times as you can't pull away you must know what happens next. This book was gripping and full of tension! Domestic abuse is not pretty in any way, shape or form but it needed to be put out there because if you aren’t touched by it then you have no idea how bad it can truly be. It may be cringe worthy for some and that is completely understandable, it should be.Grace is a prisoner in her own home never knowing when her partner, Craig, will explode. His violence against her is escalating. Can she escape before he escalates past the point of no return? For the police department, bombs are being detonated and they need to track down the bomber before more lives are lost.As this story unfolds it begins to weave a tale that has you gripped to every page until you reach the end. Charlie Ghallager knows how to write a great mystery/thriller. He gets you from the beginning and then takes you on a ride that has more turns than a roller coaster!He has once again topped his other books with this second installment of the Maddie Ives series. I so look forward to the next book and will just have to endure the wait!

Really good book!! So many unexpected twists and turns kept me wondering iif Grace would ever be safe again!! You all know those movies where a woman opens an unlocked door that should be locked, the house is dark and quiet, and she steps inside, even though you keep telling her not to!! That was how it was with Grace when she finally broke free of the torture tool. I kept saying, "No! Don't go take a shower! No, don't wait to get dressed! Just GO!!!'" I was glad to see Maddie Ives again, and her stoic partner Harry Blaker. They make a perfect team. Maddie is always ready to act on her instincts, and Harry takes a more deliberate approach but he's usually ready to.follow her into action. Their differences compliment each other and make for a very effective partnership. I hope to see much more of them in the future.Well done, Charlie! I highly recommend this book.

his is the second book in the Sunstone series. YOu can read this one first, and still manage to get what is going on.This continues the story from Sunstone 1. And I'm definitely glad they were all already out when I started this series.Good read. My series review from Sunstone 1 copied below for reference (I read them all before writing any reviews)The world is a wide place. Full of strangeness, and gems like this.First, address the elephant in the room: this series is set in context and world of BDSM and fetishwear. It is assuredly NSFW, and if kinks, homosexuality, nudity, erotic themes and situations, and dialog about nonstandard sexual preference and practice is going to bother you, ye have been warned.That being said, I started this on recommendation**, honestly because Sunstone had seriously outraged someone else so I figured it'd be good for at least a glance. And oh my, but there is a story there. This is a story addressing loneliness. About the communities around us, visible and otherwise. The connections we need, we crave to be human***. Too, it talks about consent, kinks, lifestyles, hobbies, and nerding out, treating them fairly.The artwork in the series is lovely, drawn in varying degrees of realistic tones and proportions (not chibi or cartoon-y, with occasional semi-photographic style or cartoonish look for bookends or emphasis)** If it helps, this was recommended by a librarian in charge of their graphic novel curation.*** not going for the obvious bondage joke there, but feel free to reference it if you wish

Stjepan Sejic's love story with a fetish twist continues to build steam in the second volume. With the fledgling relationship between Lisa and Ally thrown off a bit by Lisa's time of the month, a weekend of steamy role play is instead supplanted by their growing comfort in one another's company (a further sign to Lisa that maybe the crush she's developing on Ally is something more). The pair connect with Ally's oldest friend Alan (the fetishist who designs all of Ally's equipment) while also flashing back a bit to their first relationship back in college. The book caps off with the duo's travel to a local S&M themed club where Lisa learns more about Ally's past history and some of her hang ups. The book is a great read even for those unsure of the S&M themed adult nature of the story as it continues to focus on the lovable characters first and foremost. The only real hiccup with this volume is the final arc's focus on Ally's "dark past" that involves an unfortunate incident involving one of Alan's exes that Ally pushed to step up her S&M game. The plot doesn't have much relevance on the first five volumes of Sunstone and is honestly really early set up for a future planned arc that Sejic has announced featuring the ex in question. The story arc just takes up a bit too much time in this volume and is played a bit too over dramatically for having such a low impact on the actual story of Lisa and Ally overall (all in all it just is used to explain why Ally has certain hang ups over ropes and tying Lisa up).

I have read both of these books and I’m drawn to talking about the second volume first. The first volume is great. It’s wonderful and I will be putting a review on the first one as well. But I really felt like typing this feeling while it was still with me. To put it in a short way: the second volume caught me off guard. The series paints an accurate portray of bdsm and how new or veteran people reflect within it. The thoughts and feelings of Alley and Lisa strike close to me and feels like I’m reading something that resembles my life. The excitement and the fear of meeting someone new and not sure if you know what you want or even if it’s real. The ending hit way too close to me and I actually teared up. I had to put the story down for a bit.Short version: This is a really highly highly highly great story series. If you’re interested in bondage or bdsm and an honest to God! love story that is grounded in reality, read this (that was a mouth full). Hell even if bdsm isn’t your thing, just read this. Sunstone is great modern love story. It has a lot truth and honesty.

I love this series. The characters are very well developed, instantly grab your attention and hold on. The subject matter is handled in a thoughtful and respectful manner. Alternative lifestyles are presented in a clear way, and examined by several different points of view by different characters within the book. If this were my lifestyle, this is how I would hope the people in my microcosm would approach life. The relationships are portrayed in very a very real manner, with awkwardness and fights getting as much attention as sexiness and romanticism. The respect paid to people of all different walks of life is just tremendous. I know I repeated that point, but I did it on purpose: the writers and artists should be commended for this portrayal.

Volume 2 of Sunstone cuts back on the sex and instead focuses on the characters. A number of new people are introduced, and we also learn a good deal more about Ally.At the beginning of this volume, Lisa gets a visit from Aunt Flo, and has to cancel her planned weekend with Ally. Instead the two end up talking about how Ally and Alan first got involved. From their, the go to a BDSM club and meet some new people, all old friends of Alan. I thought the relationship in this volume was quite well written, showing how young lovers can end up overdoing something with skill.

A very interesting book on data structures in Functional Programming. The concepts can be applied to any Functional Programming Language. NOT for the faint of heart though, I would suggest knowing and have a firm grasp of the Functional Programming Paradigm and confident in a Functional Programming Language (e.g. Haskell, Erlang etc). Knowing about Data Structures as well (such as Heaps, Linked Lists etc) is a must as well.It is a great challenge to read and gives a great view of data structures you would never have thought of.

In the pantheon of knowledge there are increasing levels of value; data, information, knowledge and wisdom. Okasaki's "Purely Functional Data Structures" firmly fits into the latter category. The book provides a relatively complete survey of all the academic literature on the topic and presents it in a way that is understandable to an advanced programmer.If you are an advanced programmer, i.e. you have significant experience with a procedural or OO language and some experience with a functional programming language, then this book may be for you. If you have experienced issues in synchronising access to data structures in multi-threaded environments or ensuring transactional access to complex data, then this book contains the wisdom you seek.

Okasaki's book on purely functional data structures is a timeless classic.Every programmer -- functional or otherwise -- should have a copy at arm's length.This book remains the best resource available on implementing performant purely functional versions of well-known data structures -- the kind of data structures that everyday programmers need to get their jobs done.It would be one thing to only aim for coverage of the space, but Okasaki goes much further by demanding that every algorithm he presents be as elegant as possible.That insistence on elegance really pays off for the reader: the algorithms are easy to understand and easy to implement in the language of your choice.To the delight of the reader, in many cases, the functional versions of these data structures end up much easier to implement and understand than their more well-known imperative versions.

Easy to follow, useful, and cheap. Great book to have on the shelf for functional programming.

Despite the editorial description of the book, the book is really about Standard ML. It happens to have an appendix where source code has been translated -- out of order, and without reference to the text -- into Haskell. This makes it very difficult to read through the book without speaking Standard ML.The exercises, also, are only SML. Several appear to use idiosyncratic SML features -- I say "appear" because no answers to the exercises, even the basic ones, are provided for me to check my understanding.Essentially, the content is good, but expect to learn Standard ML to really get the most out of this book.

I'm not going to lie; I didn't make it through the second 2/3rds of this book. But that first third did more for my understanding of functional programming than the rest of my FP library did combined. This book seems to me to be the functional programming answer to Design Patterns. It's worth having on your shelf if you have any interest in functional programming, ML, or Haskell.

Even if you don't plan to do functional programming, it will make you a better programmer to think about recursive / immutable data structures outlined in this book. Aside from improving you as a programmer, it's just intellectually stimulating to see this elegant ways of expressing the structures, especially if you first learned imperative / stateful data structures. This is not an introductory book, however.

This book is great for someone who already understands the basics of functional programming but wants to learn more. I should note that terseness is one of this book's greatest strong points. In other words, don't assume that just because the book is short that it will be a short read. There's just a lot of information packed into so few words!

My husband and I struggled with infertility for close to 7 years. I did Clomid, IUI, IVF, FET. I got pregnant with IVF but it ended in a chemical pregnancy. I also go pregnant with the FET but miscarried at 7 weeks 4 days. We planned to give IVF another try in Sept. 2016. We moved across the country, bought a house and 2 weeks later (2 days before Christmas) I took a pregnancy test that to my complete and utter shock came back positive. I am now almost 18 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby, a healthy baby girl we are naming Emmerson. I bought this book shortly after my miscarriage and it helped give me hope to hold on to. Now my husband and I read this book to our unborn daughter almost every day (now that she can hear us) and neither of us can make it through without crying.This book is perfect for anyone struggling or who has struggled with infertility, loss or both.We can't wait to read it to our daughter when she is here and remind her every single day how wanted and loved she is.I even bought this book for a friend who has been on a similar journey as me, to help her keep the hope alive and one day be able to read to her precious baby.

I bought this great book for a friend. While I assume this book was written for parents who have adopted, this worked great for parents who struggled with infertility and fertility difficulties. This was a great book to give expectant moms and dads who have undergone fertility treatments to have a child or those who have adopted. What I really loved was the fact that it outlined what the process truly feels like, the excitement of being ready to have a child, the heartbreak when you find out that it isn't a possibility, and the thunderous joy of finally having a child - all without making it religious or too scientific. I cried reading it and cried reading it to my son, who is yet too young to understand this book, but perhaps one day will understand what his parents felt, emotionally, as we journeyed towards becoming parents.

We went through many losses and IVF to get our sweet rainbow baby and this book perfectly exemplifies that story without too much information for a child. I bought three copies to give to people at our fertility center and this ranks as my current very favorite book for our son. It doesn't go into any details of a specific journey, just a couple (non-gendered) that waited and waited for their baby. Makes me weep when I read it.

After years of infertility we are pregnant with twins via IVF. When I read the book I started crying, this explains exactly what my husband and I went though emotionally. I want my babies to know how much we fought to bring them here and how much they are really loved and wanted. This book will do it.

There are not enough good things to say about this book. For anyone who thought they would be like everyone else and just have a baby when they decided to, but then found out that some roads are very long and winding and full of heartbreak, this book is for you. It flawless describes the stages of wishing for a child, the child not coming, the despair and limbo of waiting, and the final glorious moment when your miracle baby finally arrives. As someone who had to wait two years and go through countless procedures and tests, to finally get my miracle baby through IVF, this book makes me ugly cry every time. Buy it for yourself or a friend going through infertility. I bought it before my baby was here and it gave me so much.

I love this book. I originally saw it at Target and was literally crying in the aisle when I read it. It resonated with me because we struggled with infertility for years and this book talks about the waiting in a very simple way that is appropriate for young children. I checked the price on amazon right then and there and ordered it on amazon because the price was cheaper. We used this book as a centerpiece at a table for my Storybook themed baby shower and it was the first book I read to my baby boy when he was born.

As someone who struggled with infertility, this book spoke to us. We want our little one to know just how special he/she is to us because of the complicated journey it took for him/her to get here. Was reading aloud to my husband and unexpectedly started tearing up about halfway through the book because it was completely our story.

It took 4 IVF cycles to make our son. It took at least a dozen reads to be able to get through this book without sobbing. It was written by someone who has been there. “We didn’t make plans”... so perfect. This is a beautiful book, perfect for anyone who struggled to get their baby. It would work for adoption, infertility, and for same sex couples too (the elephants are not gendered). Love it.

An excellent primer blending the hard science and soft behavior aspects of creating a holistic approach to food safety. Certainly not a detailed "how-to", but the author gives good references of where to start and why.The author's experience in this arena certainly shines through the text, and lends inspiration from a variety of recognized sources and quotable icons.I especially appreciated the emphasis on leadership at all levels, but especially the focus on the uppermost levels and the need to "be" the desired behavior.I found it to be an excellent reminder for all aspects of leadership - not only in the area food safety.

Great book

An inspiring book on the human dimensions of food safety.One of the most important challenges in food safety may be implementing an effective behavior-based food safety management system. This book is an impressive summary of what really matters and which we usually learn mainly through experience. I strongly recommend this book.

As a food safety professional for the last 10 years, it has always been my duty to educate and prevent. So many times I have became irritated from the repetitive discrepancies food/production facilities continue to attain, when I know very well that they know what is acceptable and what is not. Reading Mr. Frank Yiannas's book (3 times now) really lays out the issue at hand. Even though technically it is not a "how to" book....if one can read in between the lines and apply an innovative mind, you will see that it is a "how to" guide. This book has helped me design process recommendations for a project I worked on in my Master's program. It awed my professors (in which I had attained the best process recommendations they had seen in the program) and it has changed the way I saw things as a food scientist. We must find a way to change the consumer's behavior if we want to see a positive change in universal food safety. In the future I hope that social science and food science can be linked....it needs to be! Thanks Frank for an impacting, yet easy-read. For sure will remain part of my book collection for years to come. This is a must have for all food safety professionals!

This book deserves to reside on the shelf of any food safety professional / enthusiast.Elaborate yet concise, factual with supporting evidences, thought provoking and more importantly - inspiring.I wish I had come across this book much sooner than later.Frank Yiannas takes the readers through not just the challenges in the food and beverage industry that have remained persistent (or have advanced over time) but also helps them view them from a different perspective. There is a yawning gap in the food industry between available resources and the expected changes within an organization, presumably because food safety culture nests at the bottom of the list of food safety priorities. In a lucid (and creative) manner, the author illustrates how consistent changes can be brought about through developing good food safety culture.This book is not intended for problem solvers that seek a 'one-size-fits-all' kind of solution as it was designed to help us reflect and retrace our steps when it comes to facing food safety challenges. One of the features that I liked about this book was the use of quotes that leaves an impact and in a way, influences our understanding of the subject - positively of course.This book integrates multi-tier management strategies and the best thing is, these tools work brilliantly be it the top - down or the bottom - up approach with an emphasis on leadership skills at the top management level.If you're a food safety professional or are testing the waters in the industry, you're missing out on a lot if you haven't read this book yet.Spoiler alert: This book will help you evolve as a leader.
