This book is for people who have read and digested the previous discourses by Nisargadatta Maharaj in "I am that". This book does provide finer points. The author states the English terms like Consciousness and Vital Breath without referring to their Indian counterparts used by Maharaj. At times I felt somewhat disconnected. But the usage is consistent. The book maybe lacking in pages but, for the advanced student, not many pointers are necessary. Books can only provide concepts. They cannot liberate you. Is it the ultimate medicine? That depends on the student.

Firstly book arrived timely and in great condition. I came across this guy as I am buying as many english transliterated and translated Tantras I can afford as I can afford them. Just by reading reviews I was intrigued and looked a little deeper, decided I had to see the words of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj in-depth myself. I am glad I did. It is so pleasant to read in words what oneself has seen, felt, touched, tasted, smelled, and experienced as expounded by Sri Nisargadatta. He seemed to be such a one as had a teaching for any person at any level and thus will seeming contradictions be found, but hypocrisy never.

There was hesitation about ordering this book as some of the reviews appeared to indicate the book was a rehash of `I AM THAT'. This book is a culmination, or refinement, of Nisargadatta's teaching. The discourses are longer than most of his past books, so one gets a little more of his thought process in getting the points across. Recorded late in his life, the discourses on the vital life force were of interest. The refinement of rest in I AM to rest in the vital life force brought new life to his teaching. The epilogue to the book states; "The sum and substance of my teaching is this: Don't be dishonest to your vital breath; worship that only, abide in that only, accept it as yourself. And when you worship in this manner, it can lead you anywhere, to any heights- this is the quintessence of my talks."To fully understand the quote, read the book, it tells you all about the life force.Time now for a reread.

Wisdom consolidated and to the point. Nisargadatta is one of the greatest sages of the 20th century and his talks are profound to the highest degree. No stories about how to make a better, happier life. Just a guide to the truth of what you are. Any book composed of his talks is a 5 star read. These talks were recorded in his loft in Bombay in the late 70s and early 80s. This book is one of a set of 'addendums' to "I Am That", a true Classic in the genre.

This book is a collection of some of the later question and answer sessions between Sri Nisargadatta and visitors from around the world. After finishing `I Am That' I read this book. There is a noticeable difference between the words of Nisargadatta in the two books. `I Am That' is unquestionably the better of the books, and the pinnacle of Maharaj's teachings.During His earlier days, Maharaj was eager to teach, and would continually answer beginners questions. In this book, which collects talks during which He was ill and close to death (the body's death), he stated that he no longer desired to teach, and was a little intolerant of beginners unfamiliar with the basics of his teachings. So this book deals with some of Nisargadatta's more advanced teachings.Maharaj in this book talks about the necessity of understanding your own incarnation, and what you were before the body was born. He talks about the interdependence of the vital breath and consciousness, stating that both consciousness and the sense of `I-Am-Ness' are dependent on the body. This book gave me a better understanding of the principle method taught by Sri Nisargadatta, which is holding onto the sense of `I Am.' He taught that this method will lead to the realization that you are not the body, but consciousness. However, He also said that this isn't the Ultimate, and that even the association with consciousness has to be given up eventually. If I understand correctly, realizing that you are consciousness is Brahman, and when this is realized you become the totality of manifestation. But the Ultimate, Parabrahman, is the witness of the Brahman and the full and final enlightenment. All of this is elucidated in `The Ultimate Medicine.'So, while not the monumental work that `I Am That' is, this book is still very worth reading, especially if you want to go deeper, and read some of the more advanced teachings by this great Master, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

This novel, the first in Margaret Atwood's dystopian trilogy, is a fascinating, dark and thought-provoking ride. Perhaps overshadowing the story itself, Atwood's world forces the reader into tremendous moral reflection. We are made to question the nature of exploitation, the meaning of social consent and whether effort for the greater good can ever be divorced from emotional self-interest. In terms of bigger picture message, if not story, the first book reminds me of Hugh Howey's mesmerizing Wool series.The story centers around Jimmy, also called Snowman, assumed to be the lone survivor of a plague that destroyed humanity. His companions are Crakers: a society of unworldly humanoid experiments designed to eliminate the perceived flaws of normal homo sapiens. The Crakers see Snowman as a relic and link to the "before" times as well as their source of knowledge about their creator, Crake. Jimmy has given the Crakers an origin story, that while false, is something he feels they can mentally grasp. The enigmatic Oryx is the novel's most interesting character primarily because she is so difficult to understand. She is the love interest to both Jimmy (Snowman) and Crake.Atwood, an avid environmentalist, creates a believable world where climate change accelerates with cataclysmic consequences; changing the nature of agriculture and livestock production, flooding major cities and changing the weather. To compensate, society evolves into a two-tiered structure where scientists and thought-workers segregate themselves into highly secure compounds while the remainder of humanity fend for themselves in decaying, crime-ridden "plebelands". The scientists, working for global corporations, create increasingly bizarre animal and plant hybrids for food in addition to rejuvenation products that increase lifespan and beauty for those who can afford them.The novel is, overall, an excellent one and well worth the read. The characters are well-developed and fascinating though almost uniformly difficult to like. Many elements of the story are gut-wrenchingly plausible and Atwood masterfully manages to ruin your sleep at night. One leaves the tale of Oryx and Crake with little hope for the future of humanity. Too many genies, it seems, are already out of the bottle.It's possible to nitpick some of the story's futuristic elements. For example, published in 2003, it's difficult to see how Atwood couldn't see the coming of smart phones and electronic documents. Jimmy, searching for a job, is somehow snail mailing his paper resume to prospective employers. And another nit, as a former marketer, I found nearly all of the product names things that would have been mercilessly ridiculed at any ad meeting. Atwood seems in love with cheesy rhymes and putting "oo" in everything (Anooyoo, Soy Oh-Boy, pigoons).Still, world-building is hard, and you have to cut the author some slack. After all, we let Suzanne Collins get away with never explaining how and why the Hunger Games world is like that. Whether or not you will like Oryx and Crake really depends on your feelings about apocalyptic fiction. I tend to rate this type of fiction on whether the author made me think and creeped me out. This novel will definitely do both of those things.

"Oryx and Crake" is a magnificent work of literary science fiction and Postmodernist criticism. Atwood creates a dystopia vision referencing Gore Vidal's "Kalki" and Capek's "R.U.R" combined with William Gibson's dark perspective of Late Capitalism run amok. It is also an homage to the beauty of vocabulary and its essentialness to human culture:"He compiled lists of old words too - words of a precision and suggestiveness that no longer had a meaningful application in today's world...He memorized these hoary locutions, tossed them left-handed into conversations: wheelwright, lodestone saturnine, adamant. He'd developed a strangely tender feeling towards such words, as if they were children abandoned in the woods and it was his duty to rescue them."This love of the lost and abandoned is, however, not limited to words but also the dispossessed people inhabiting Atwood's world. It is most forcibly projected upon the character of Oryx, a woman so commoditized by the world that she doesn't know her nationality or mother tongue anymore. She has spent her life since childhood as a sex toy for Western consumption.Atwood creates her own version of Pasolini's "Salo" in Oryx' journey through life, one just as bitter and unavoidable as the Italian auteur's. Margaret brings viscerally to life the child bordellos of Thailand, the Italian countryside littered with Nigerian prostitutes, the smorgasbord of Dubai whorehouses, the pervasive presence of Eastern European mail-order brides in Western countries, the ubiquitous availability of pornography just a touch away on our computing devices, and the slave trade that drives all of this global commerce. And yet, this is also a story about a quest for love in a world reduced to filth and return on investment.Truly a novel of action, entertainment, and human pathos capable of joy and horror, ennui and redemption, and worthy of both SF and literary acclaim. Have at it!

I read a great deal of science fiction and most of it is,to be charitable,derivative trash - particularly the self-published military scifi that is so abundant on Amazon. But every so often a masterpiece appears and one of them is the MaddAddam trilogy. I had been aware of these books for some time, but somehow never got around to reading them. Deeply tired of thousands of missiles and mechanized body armor and planet busters, I finally gave these a try and can kick myself for waiting so long. This is literature, not pulp. Atwood manages a number of individual voices, including her own, that come together to create a fully-realized world. Dystopian, yes but so far above the usual zombies and machine uprisings as Hamlet is to "See Spot Run" The multitude of voices and points-of-views are never more than masterful, the language is lyrical and when need be beautiful, and the creatures that inhabit this world are inventive and vividly described. I can think of only one other series that attains the rank of literature, Octavia Butler's "Lilith" series. MaddAddam is art of the highest order, not just a genre piece. Be prepared to give it some time and you, too, will enter into her world.

This book is filled with simple, color illustrations on heavy, glossy paper. Each skill is presented on one or two pages and there is also a "true life survival story" on many of the pages. The skills are basic survival for anyone, presented in a way a preteen could follow, but because the writing is not dumbed down, it also appropriate for an older child. I am sorry it is out of print and that the title specifies boys, because it is truly for anyone who is interested in survival. The size of the book is large, so not for a backpack, but an excellent resource and interesting reading. The author also wrote the Special Forces Survival Guide, which is much more detailed, but does not have the great illustrations and simple format that this book has.

This is one of three books I purchased in order to help prepare some younger Scouts to "Be Prepared" when they're camping and hiking. What I did not realized until the books arrived is that this book is written by the same author as the Special Forces Survival Guide; a book with approximately 500 survival skills for all types of situations. This book takes the 101 most critical, highest probability of being used and lays them out in an instructional, illustrative, one-skill-per-page format that is well organized in a logical format.The verbiage is limited to instructions except for real-life anecdotes which are kept as sidebars. The pages are bigger than the Special Forces Survival Guide, but the illustrations are also in color. This makes this book a better teaching guide than one I'd want to carry in a backpack on an extended hike. But it doesn't dumb anything down either and, beyond the introduction, there is nothing in this book that wouldn't appeal to girls as well as boys or, for that matter, adults looking for a introductory-type survival manual distilled down to the most important and simplest skills.A great purchase!

This was a good book.very informative I like the color pictures it had,I read all the way thru had good tips even having read or seen a lot of the stuff before its nice to have one book with color pictures to reference.It arrived in the time allotted everything went well I would recommend this book for anybody who enjoys camping hunting fishing ect hiking..

my young boys 12 and 9 use this book alot it has so much for then to read and learn. they needed something to teach them a few things and this was it even with my 10 yrs of army infantry i can use some of the stuff in this book.

This was the thing that got me into Backpacking. It has some good tips for fishing, signaling, orienteering, camping, and survival. I recommend this to a person starting out with survival and all of the rest of the things listed above, but I do not recommend this to someone experienced.

Appropriate for preteens and early adolescence. I bought this for my thirteen-year-old son and think he will like it. It is chockful of good, helpful advice for outdoor survival and the illustrations are pretty decent.

This beginner's method book, while providing fun activities and appropriately levelled songs, contains numerous errors, typos, and even pictures of the wrong instrument! This is a ukulele book and my students love pointing out the pictures of guitars that the editor somehow missed. Some words are in bold that shouldn't be, some chords are wrong. Easy enough for me to make the adjustments as I go along and point them out to my students, but a new edition should definitely come out with some editing.

Great book for kids. Only teaches C,F,G7,Am chords but the songs are good and the instruction is great. My 7 year old daughter has read the whole book, pretty much taught herself chords from it, and loves playing the songs.

This is a well made product and is standing up nicely to my 4 year old and even when it gets into the hands of my 1 year old. It is so fun hearing my son play songs and sing. It is a good fit for him and easy to use and hold.

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter who is just learning the okay the uke. It is simple and easy for both my daughter and me to understand. Great beginner book.

This book is no substitute for a teacher or class. My six year-old wasn't getting anywhere with this book, so we started her with a private instructor. Maybe older kids would have better luck.

This is a fun easy book to learn the ukulele with. When it comes to learning up and down strokes and singing along while you play it couldn’t get any easier than the way this book teaches it. I have bought three books so far so yes I would recommend it to any beginner. Got to start somewhere

Spoiler:Amber is not in a coma and any hospital would know that because she would be hooked up to an EEG machine. She is in a medically-induced paralytic state. So that's a lie.Her husband is not lying to her and he does love her. So that's a lie.She does lie, and that's the cheapest trick (next to using sudden magic) a writer can use.I read this all the way through in one sitting just because the book was so expensive I was determined to be able to review it knowing all there is to know about it. None of the characters are interesting; you just don't care what happens to them (if they're who the author says they are and if they're real characters in the first place). Once you realize Amber is paralytic and that she has a pushy medically-trained ex-boyfriend, you know who who put her into that state. And as soon as you hear she has cognitive problems, you know the rest of the story is up for grabs -- the author couldn't be bothered to write a tightly-woven plot so she just leaves it up to you to decide what's real.I taught line-of-action writing for twenty years, and if a student had brought this abomination to me, I would have told him/her to start over. This is just so bad I don't understand why anyone but a fellow ex-comp teacher would bother to read it.Save your money! If you want to read an emotionally-charged psychodrama with a cognitively-challenged female protagonist, read The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena. At least it's entertaining.

A main character who is in a coma and sometimes lies. I'm all in!Quite a spellbinding read from start to finish! We are not sure how Amber ended up in the hospital in this coma , but she does admit that sometimes she lies. This was like a puzzle and I was trying to put the pieces together, but couldn't entirely trust all the pieces. Very cleverly written and I loved hearing what Amber was thinking while in this coma sizing up everyone in the room and giving us her insight. Four stars because I felt there was almost too much going on. I'm not sure how to explain it, but with all the lies I think I wanted a more defined plot line.The narrative switches from Now (in coma) to Then (before the coma). I loved trying to figure out what the lies were and who to trust. It is super twisty and just when you think you have it figured out another twist flies your way! A fast read for me because I needed to find out what was going on.The ending was my favorite part because it leaves you questioning yourself and if you perhaps missed anything. I have a theory, but I guess I'll have to wait until the next book!

I thought there were only two sides. Good and evil. After reading Alice Feeney’s psychological thriller SOMETIMES I LIE, I am now convinced there is another super sinister side somewhere at the edge of evil. Man, oh, man. This book will not let you down, thriller lovers. You will be on the edge of whatever perch you read.The narrator is in a coma, but she can hear what is happening and what is going on is nothing short of terrifying. She is not sure what her responsibility is in how she got to the hospital and what harm she might have caused.Set aside some serious time to read because once you start this, I promise you will not be able to put this book down. For sure you will be creeped out, but that creep factor is what will keep you wanting for more.Feeney’s debut work is surely just the beginning of many more wicked tales to come.

I probably should not comment on this book, because I am totally confused by the end of the story. It does keep you reading, but it is also confusing, and at the end, you are left more confused than ever. None of the characters are likeable, but I suppose the author did a good job in developing them to BE unlikeable.

I'm in a coma2. My husband doesn't love me3. Sometimes I lieThis is told through 3 different times lines. Now - When Amber “wakes” up in the hospital in a coma (with no memory of what happened) Then - The week leading up to when Amber “wakes” up in a coma. And then through diary entries from about 25 years ago.Now when I say Amber “wakes” up in a coma, I mean she can hear what people are saying but she cannot talk, move or open her eyes. I really liked this POV. Was kind of freaky as I was reading and just imagining how that would be, being able to hear but not tell anyone. She would be screaming answers but only in her head. And then she would slip back into the darkness and have memories. But are they real or imaginations? I think the author did great job with this part of the book. The writing and descriptions was so good , that you can just imaging what Amber is feeling.I really liked all the characters. They were all well developed. You don't know who to trust and what to believe. Great pacing and as it got father along it the book the suspense picks up, that I wanted to read faster. But I had to slow myself down to absorb what I was reading because I was getting confused LOL Still a couple things that have me a little confused (may go back and skim the book again) But I still enjoyed it very much.

Like all the recent psychological thrillers, I was mesmerized initially. I thought that at last I'd found a good book. NOT. Like the rest, it became so preposterous and bizarre that I don't even care how it ends. Skip this entirely unless you don't mind a totally outrageous and ridiculous plot.

I liked this book a lot until I was almost finished with it. Then it got so confusing I couldn't follow it. The first half was gripping and interesting but the last half was just too hard to follow. I didn't even finish it.

Fantastic book, a psychological thriller that grabs you. You need your wits about you reading this with many twists and turns.

***SPOILER ALERT!*** Contains references to book specifics.I'm a HUGE Laurie Notaro fan and I've bought/read all her books. So of course I was tickled when I saw this and ordered it ASAP!I was really, really disappointed in this one. First of all - and this is just personal preference - I'm kind of over the stories from Arizona. She's been regurgitating these in various books and since those are borderline antiquated, then peppered with more recent ones, it just seems like fodder when she runs out of new material or has a specific page count that needs to be filled...with anything.Speaking of which. No offense to her or her nona but I don't buy a Laurie Notaro memoir for 20-something filler pages with recipes. Seriously? I mean, the whole point of her books is acerbic, quirky, clumsy, relatable stuff that she has experienced and gives her personal slant on. Do I want to be thumbing through endless pages of recipes? NO, obviously NOT.All in all, if you're a fan of her earlier work, I'd say borrow this and expect about 20-25% enjoyable content. The rest is, IMO, a waste of time and print.

After reading so many “heavy” books I started to look deliberately for one that was funny. I really wanted a lighter read! I researched for a while and found this novel, rated by most as hilarious.I picked this book up with huge expectations, and maybe that is why it struggled to meet them.Do not get me wrong. It was a pleasurable read and there were parts in the book that made me laugh (or at least got few smirks out of me), but rating it hilarious would be exaggerating.What turned me off the most was that it was not a story divided into chapters, but more a compilation of short essays by the same author. Closer to the end I couldn’t wait for the book to finish, and completely skipped the pages with food recipes.Maybe it wasn’t that funny, and maybe I am just into this type of books and should stick with the heavy reads and non-funny novels.

I completely identify with Laurie Notaro -- I grew up with an Italian grandmother who taught me all about gravy and macaroni. But I'm not even close to being as funny as Laurie when recounting tales of my youth. When I read Laurie's books, I am ROFLOL every time. She Is Hilarious and I promise you, your sides will hurt from the laughs of reading her work.

Laurie Notaro is a wonderful writer. This book covers a lot of ground: it isn't only about housekeeping. I learned about Laurie taking up sewing, the tree falling on her house and about her infertility. I especially loved the final chapter, which is a letter to her younger self. A really, really good book.

Oh, Laurie, how I have missed you? But truly it's by no fault but my own. I haven't had the time to read with life getting in the way. I literally laughed out loud when reading your stories. The similarities are uncanny. The hello fresh and kiss cam story literally is my life.People who have really seem to jerk to me quite a bit lately and I just can't deal with them. I needed an escape. This is my Escape. Keep writing, I'll keep reading.

This could have been a much better story but I don’t appreciate the vulgarity. I get enough of that in my daily life from those who think because it’s common it’s acceptable. I don’t.

This started out so fun and full of out loud laughs! I recommended it to maybe 10 of my close friends who read. But it petered out in the middle. Not completely boring (I didn't quit but did give it some thought), only not as good as the beginning. The end picked up again.

Laurie Notaro makes me laugh.Hard.To The point of tears and laughter turning to wheezing, hard.Snippets of normal imperfections SO very relevant and relatable. Funnier because you've either done, almost done or have seen some done by a friend or family member.I didn't want this book to end.
