I enjoyed this book. Finished it in a day. The characters were likable, the heroine was the perfect amount of courage without being full of fearless bravado. You know- the type of heroine you roll your eyes at because you wonder if in the authors desire to paint them as ‘courageous’ they’ve also lost all common sense? This was not the case here. She had a healthy and respectful amount of fear for this era and her situation and it made it all the more believable. The hero was a tortured soul who was able to ‘see the light’ with their love. I did feel like the author built the story up slowly and lavishly and I was thoroughly enjoying the upward momentum and then suddenly somewhere in the middle/later half of the book... it suddenly felt rushed..then boom cliffhanger. Talk about anticlimactic! Little disappointed in the final chapters and felt like it contrasted sharply with the beautiful writing in the beginning of the book. Nevertheless I will be reading the second. I can see the talent in her writing-just hope she takes her time with the next book and doesn’t hurry this potentially epic love story.
Another wonderful book by Candace Osmond! The story captured my attention from the beginning.The characters unique, each given their own backstories and personalities. I loved Dianna! She wasn't your typical Damsel-in-distress. She stood her ground even when circumstances were dangerous. And Henry, the tormented soul, who was trying to make up for his errors, played nicely off of each other. Add a quirky lot of supporting characters and one badass villain, and you've got yourself a winning cast.The storyline was well written, which each scenario perfectly detailed, allowing the reader to slip right on in. The story developed nicely to segue straight into the next volume. Love the cliffhanger ending! Can't wait to read the next installment!
The Devil's Heart is the first book I have read by this author, Candace Osmond.I was drawn in by the blurb...I mean pirates and time travel are my krytonite! This is an intensely enjoyable story wrought with tales of woe, murder/death, plunder, betrayal....and then the time travel adventure begins!Great detail, picturesque with a gradual buildup of character development lending to the mystery and suspense.I couldn't wait to see what as going to happen next.And that ending!!! Aarrgghhh... Cliffhanger ahead!
Wow! This is such a well-thought out time travel story. I love the characters! They are all multi-faceted, no cardboard cutouts as you find in some novels. I love the way Osmond describes her settings and the care with which she develops her characters. I think Finn is one of my favorites! He is so endearing right from the start! the only complaint I can think of is that it took me a little while to get into the book, but once I did, I was hooked! Plus, that ending! I cannot wait to read the next book!
Candice Osmond has once again made me a huge fan of her work. This story is about Danna. After her mom die and her father went crazy she decided to leave her little town and go live in the city and start a new life. But then one day she got the phone call that change her life her father was now dead. Now she has to go back to her old life, faced with the decision of selling her parents properties or keep them for her own. In her parents house she was cleaning up when she came across this chest. But what was inside of it changed everything and Danna was about to beging the biggest adventure of her life. Candace Osmond sure knows how to engaged you on the story. I couldnt put this book down.I want more of the story..
This was a very easy and quick to read the book. The word“Uh†was used in so many sentences I almost didn’t want to finish the book. I liked Diana alright but Henry ...a big mush, kind of annoying , not a brave sexy pirate . I almost feel bad for how he was written. Diana saved his butt on a few occasions and he hardly did anything for her . Their love scenes weren’t very saucy . This felt more like a middle school read . I probably will not continue this series. It was very lacking in many areas .
I bought this book yesterday, and had to force myself to put it down! The story is original and engaging, the characters are interesting, and the overall flow of the book is just right (nothing drags, nor is anything rushed through). There are a few minor grammatical errors, but not enough to take anything away from the book overall. I've already pre-ordered book two of the trilogy, April 23 cannot come soon enough!
This book was so good I read it in one day, which I never do. I loved the main characters and their pull toward one another. I loved the sea and the magic. Such a great read I couldn’t put it down! Going for the second book now!!
